Rafting on the Colorado with the Hualapaï Indians

*SEASON 2006*

The River Runners was founded in 1975, when the company first began by giving one-day whitewater rafting trips. The trips take place on the Hualapai Indian reservation, a Sovereign nation, along the banks of the Colorado River.

Your meeting point is early in the morning in the lobby of the "Hualapai Lodge" in Peach Springs, Arizona (Historic Route 66) You begin with a bus ride down to Diamond Creek.  Launching out into the water in your pontoon, you will encounter your first set of Class 3 rapids…

The entire descent takes place in the beautiful gorges of the Grand Canyon in the heart of the Hualapai Indian reservation.

Numerous rapids, abundant nature, and the friendliness of your Hualapai Indian Guides will make this an unforgettable experience!

Your trip ends at Quatermaster point . A helicopter transports you back to the airport, where a bus is waiting to escort you back to the Hualapai Lodge.

The Rafting Season is from March to October - Children must be at least 8 years of age.

FAQ

Who are the River Guides ?
Our guides are qualified with hundreds of miles of river experience. Each guide has a background in natural history and will help make every trip an unforgettable experience.

Do I need to be strong ?
Our trip is an outdoor activity with exposure to the elements. We consider our river trip to be mildly strenuous requiring some effort. You do not need to be an experienced rafter, hiker or swimmer to enjoy our trip. Children must be at least 8 years of age.

Are Food & Beverages provided ?
Each raft will have an ice chest providing water, juice, soft drinks and snacks throughout the trip. Sandwiches and chips will be served for lunch. No alcoholic beverages allowed.

What about First Aid & Life Jackets ?
A first aid kit is standard equipment on every raft. All boat persons are trained in CPR, First Aid and Swift Water Rescue. Hualapai Tribal Regulations as well as National Park Regulations mandate the wearing of life jackets by all persons in a watercraft at all times.

What are the Sanitary Facilities ?
Portable toilets are available at the Peach Springs airstrip and Diamond Creek (launch point). During our excursion on the river, we will stop at Spencer Canyon to utilize our environment friendly compost toilet. Restrooms are also located in the Hualapai Lodge and Grand Canyon West (trip termination point). We strongly recommend using the toilet at one of these sites.

How safe are the motor boats ?
Our motorized river rafts are specifically designed for traversing the Colorado River. The can hold up to 8 passengers to accommodate large groups and families.
